Dry Needling
Dry needling is a skilled intervention that uses a thin filiform needle to penetrate the skin and stimulate underlying myofascial trigger points, muscular, and connective tissues for the management of neuromusculoskeletal pain and movement impairments. Dry needling is a technique used to treat dysfunctions in skeletal muscle, fascia, and connective tissue, and, diminish persistent peripheral nociceptive input, and reduce or restore impairments of body structure and function leading to improved activity and participation.
Is Dry Needling the same as Acupuncture?
No, Dry Needling is different from Acupuncture!
The Mayo Clinic defines Acupuncture as, "A technique for balancing the flow of energy or life force — known as chi or qi (chee) — believed to flow through pathways (meridians) in your body. By inserting needles into specific points along these meridians, acupuncture practitioners believe that your energy flow will re-balance."
Dry Needling focuses on the specific region you have pain to improve tissue length and facilitate healing. If you have pain in the arm, the needles will be targeted to that region based on muscle attachment sites.
